Thirty boards in play on round one seemed to indicate numbers down a bit
on last year. But quite a few late-comers caught up their round one game
on Tuesday 18/11.
The first upset I noticed was on board four where Ruperto Lugo handled the
black pieces to account for Dusan Stojic. And perennial Rowan Fell yielded
a few more points to Zhigen Wilson Lin; watch this one.
Artem Nikolayevsky showed that if you play in Sunday Rookies Cups then you
learn tricks that George Umber may not have seen. Samuel Fell had a good
win over Derek Yu. And Elena Galiabovitch had her best club result with
a draw against Richard Martin. The big result for me was Shuyu Wang’s
win over Marieke van Dijk; well done Shuyu.
There are draft calendars for next year on the front desk.
ACF Bulletin #242
came out this week; in fact it is a weekly bulletin produced by the Australian
Chess Federation. You can link to the ACF web-site from our Box Hill web-site
and organise your
own free copy of this national bulletin. See Trevor Stanning if you
have any difficulty. The Bulletin contained highly interesting information
about a $7000 development fund for juniors, next year. It also contains
analysis of the recent Kasparov win against X3D Fritz. The final match
result was 2-2.
