April 13 Rookies and Queens Cup.
As both Trevor and I will be away for this one It
will be an interesting day for the A team I reported last week The A team is now
fully assembled with a much more knowledgeable arbiter and a top computer
operator. As Gershwin once said ,,who can ask for anything more,,
Absence of Treasurer and Captain
There will have to be some adjustments and
compromises from members during the coincidental absences together of treasurer
and club captain Several members have already stepped up with offers of help and
support, but more help is needed particularly in the field of taking of entries
for Tuesday and Friday tournaments
So to paraphrase a famous source in this time of
need ,, Ask not what your club can do for you but what together we can do for
the club,,
David Flude will do the newsheet while I am away
2008 Autumn Cup completed
The tournament that starts in summer but finishes in autumn
The final results are now on the BHCC web site.

The
outcome
And so Geoff Saw never quite made up for the loss he suffered in round 1.
A seven rounder makes it hard to recover from a set back. Chris Wallis seemed
comfortable on board one and played some interesting games. In the last round I
thought Bobby Cheng had an early edge but as it turned out he will have to wait
a bit longer for his first win against Chris. On the lower boards, Isaac Ng had
some good wins, Elliott Renzies has returned to some sort of form but as
mentioned elsewhere Vanja's return to chess has been sensational.
Members should keep their eye on the novice micro brigade which was well
represented at this tournament and need to be commended for their
concentrationand behaviour.

2008 Autumn Cup round 6 completed
The tournament that starts in summer but finishes in autumn
The results for round 6 have finally been completed and
we can look forwards to an exiting last round. By virtue of his draw against
highly rated Fide master Geoff Saw Club champion Chris Wallis has maintained his
half point lead over the field but a draw in the last round may not be enough to
secure outright first. See final draw on the BHCC web site http://www.boxhillchess.org.au

Tuesday New season Swiss
The big absences continued in the Tuesday tournament in
the last round which has spoiled the tournament somewhat. However main players
saw the tournament through Shane Lawson beat Rad Chmiel on the showboard in a
nice game [which drew applause from the spectators] to secure first place and
$50 prize Second prize of $30 went to David Flude who promised his winnings to
the Olympiad appeal. Under 1000 winner was Oliver Lemmel with $20 prize in his
best result so far with Joseph Wong doing very well to come second in rthis
section to collect $10 for his pains.
