Black has reached a Modern Benoni position but avoiding all of the fashionable O-O 9. O-O Re8 10. Qc2 Na6 11. Nd2 Nc7 12. a4 b6 This is a typical Modern Benoni position. White must play in the centre and the kingside while black will strive for a queenside breakthrough. 13. Nc4 Ba6 This is a very typical Benoni idea. Swapping off one pair of minor pieces usually helps black more than white. 14. Bf4 Bxc4 15. Bxc4 a6 16. Rfe1 This position is approximately equal. However it is much easier to play the black position. It is easy to find good squares for the black pieces and then push the queenside pawns. On the other hand it is not obvious as to where to put the white pieces or how to play in the centre or kingside. 16... Qd7 17. Qd3 Ng4 18. h3 Ne5 19. Bxe5 Bxe5 20. Rf1 Reb8 21. f4 Bd4+ 22.
