Major Events We Host
Box Hill Chess Club and Canterbury Junior Chess Club have a long history of organising and hosting major state, national and international chess events.
Our experienced organising and arbiter teams, led by IA Dr Peter Tsai, have delivered tournaments ranging from large junior championships to elite events featuring leading players from across Australia, New Zealand and the wider Oceania region. Many of these events are held at larger external venues to accommodate competitors travelling from interstate and overseas.

Victorian Junior Chess Championships

- Victorian Juniors 2012 to 2024 & 2026
The Victorian Junior Chess Championships have been a major part of our tournament calendar for many years, with the 2026 event attracting 415 junior players across the U8–U18 Open and Girls divisions.
Australian Schools Teams Championships
Australian Schools Teams Championships
- 2020 ASTC (online due to COVID)
- 2021 ASTC (online due to COVID)
- 2025 ASTC (Glen Waverley Secondary College)
Box Hill Chess Club was involved in delivering the Australian Schools Teams Championships online in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID, before hosting the championships again in 2025 for qualifying primary and secondary school teams from across Australia.

The Australian Junior Chess Championships was hosted by the Club in 2018 and 2023, with nine days of competition for leading junior players from across Australia.

Box Hill Chess Club hosted the Oceania Zonal Championships in 2023 and 2025, attracting players from across the Oceania region.

The Australian Open Chess Championships was organised by our Club in 2019 and 2025, with players competing across Premier, Minor and Blitz events.
